AI Art Policy
AI Art has come a long way from a couple of years ago and so has ethical use standards. As a result, our policies have evolved and changed. We believe there are ways to use AI ethically and responsibly. I have communicated with multiple artists and taken their viewpoints into consideration.
Photoshop and other digital software used for photos and art are incorporating AI tools into the programs for artists to use.
AI does not always need to be used to generate or create an image. AI, also offers tools for editing and offers the ability to make changes or tweaks to a photo that was not AI generated. AI can be used to enhance, add, or remove content from a photo or image, blemish correction, etc. AI can be an enhancer, not just a creator.
I will always buy every image that I use from a legitimate/real artist. I still use artists who hand sketch and design and will continue to do so.
Some artists are choosing to incorporate AI tools into their creative process alongside traditional methods. Artists who ethically incorporate AI into their creative processes often use AI as a tool to enhance their work, while ensuring that their creations respect intellectual property and maintain authenticity.
I also buy illustrations from stock photo /digital marketplaces where photographers, illustrators and artists contribute/create portfolios to sell their work. I have been buying digital illustrations from these artists long before AI was even a thing.
The 3 that I use and their AI policies:
Shutterstock-uses their own library of images, and users can utilize the AI tools on the site. Contributors have consented to these terms and are compensated if their portfolios/work has contributed to an AI generated image.
Dreamstime-Contributors must have all rights to the generated images they submit. This is important because not all AI generative models give users full rights over the content they create with them. With this requirement, Dreamstime is weeding out images with potentially problematic copyright.
Bigstockphoto-accepts no AI art.
MBA would never use unethical practices in any part of our business.
